The new DHL
Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will
serve as the transfer point for all shipments between the U.S. and
Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. As the largest hub
in the DHL Worldwide Express global network, the facility, when
fully developed, will accommodate 625 aircraft and throughput a
capacity of more than 2.5 million pounds of material each evening.
At peak times, each hour more than 50,000 letters, packages and
freight, shipments will be unloaded, sorted and reloaded aboard
aircraft for express delivery to their final destinations.
Airis Holdings,
LLC was selected as the developer for the project and will hold
the 40 year ground lease with the Kenton County Airport Board. Initial
site preparation work began in Spring of 1999. DHL expects to begin
operations in the new facility in the summer of 2003. DHL currently
employs 1,100 personnel at the existing hub facility and estimates
that more than 800 new jobs will be created over the first 10 years
of operation of the new hub.
